Oranges Are not the Only Fruit

Long before we all started becoming nutrition savvy if it’s one thing that everyone knew, ift was that oranges are good for you. For centuries they have been prized for their juice and flesh which is packed with vitamin C. Oranges are probably the world’s first original superfood. The definition of superfood may have moved on but oranges the nutritional goodness of oranges remains undisputed.

Here’s some great orange based drinks/smoothies suitable for any time of day.

If you are going to take short cuts and use ready squeezed orange juice make sure it’s pure juice and not made from concentrate.

A kitchen designed for healthy eating should contain a blender/smoothie maker and an electric juicer if you can afford it.

  • All of these recipes are for 1 serving and all have less than150 calories per serving.
Requirements
  • Blender, smoothie maker or food processor
  • Juicer
Ingredients
    Mangorange:
  • 2 small oranges
  • ½ large mango
  • 1 lime
  • Bearly Orange:
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 red apple
  • 1 pear
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Orange-u-tangy:
  • 1 orange
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 figs
  • ½ large banana
  • 2.5cm cube fresh root ginger
Directions
Mangorange:
Juice the oranges and lime
Put in a blender, add the mango together with 1 ice cube and whizz until well combined
Decorate with slivers of lime peel or a wedge of lime to serve

Bearly Orange:
Juice all the fruit
Combine in a large glass and stir in the honey
Chuck in some ice and serve

Orange-u-tangy:
Juice the carrots, figs and orange
Put all 3 juices into a blender
Chop the banana
Peel and chop the ginger
Add banana and ginger and 2 ice cubes to the blender and blend for 20 seconds
Serve with more ice cubes and some sliced figs
